NH Vineyards

When most people think of vineyards and winemaking, they think of California or Italy. Many people don't realize that NH is home to more than a dozen vineyards. Some NH vineyards have won prestigious awards for their wine making efforts. Here is your guide to the New Hampshire vineyards...



 Candia Vineyards

Candia, NH


Candia Vineyards is an award winning vineyard in Candia New Hampshire. They have won numerous awards including New Hampshire Magazine’s Best of NH 2008. The vineyard has Frontenac, Lacrosse, Noiret and Diamond Varietals. They are the first vineyards in the United States to sign the Business Ethics Pledge.



 Zorvino Vineyards

 226 Main Street

Sandown, NH


Zorvino Vineyards is located on 80 acres of beautiful forests. Their grapes are grown in the heart of the winemaking country parts of the world such as Tuscany, Chile and Northern California. Zorvino wines can be found in many stores around NH such as Durham Marketplace in Durham, The Wine Studio in Manchester and Londonderry and On The Vine Marketplace in Exeter.  You can also get the wines at restaurants such as Depot Square Steakhouse in Derry, The Holy Grail in Epping and The Pasta Loft in Hampstead.



 Jewell Towne Vineyards

 183 White Hall Road

South Hampton, NH


Jewell Towne Vineyards is NH’s oldest and most awarded winery. They have been making the finest red, white and rose wines since 1994. The vineyards have won awards for their Seyval, Cayuga White, Chardonnay, Marechal, Foch and Vidal Ice Wine. The winemaker for Jewell Vineyards, DR. Peter Oldak, has won the vineyards over 100 medals in International competitions. At the winery, you can enjoy complimentary wine tasting and you can learn about how wine is made.  Time online reviewed the Valvin Muscat from Jewell Towne Vineyards.  It was rated excellent.  By 1990, the vineyards had over 60 varieties of American, European and French Hybrid grapes.  Jewell Towne went commercial in 1994.



 Sweet Baby Vineyards

Kensington, NH


Sweet Baby Vineyards is a fairly new vineyard being established in 2008.  The vineyards are owned by Lewis and Stacey Eaton. Lewis is the winemaker and Stacey is the office manager. They offer fruit wines such strawberry and white peach, red wines such as Kensington Red and white wines such as Niagara. Sweet Baby Vineyards can be purchased from several places in NH such as The Freetown Yankee Market in Raymond, Riverworks Tavern in New Market and Tobacco Depot in Seabrook. Complimentary wine tasting as well as sales of the wine is available at the winery.



 The Picassic Pond Winery

 38 Oaklands Road

Newfields, NH


Picassic Pond makes mead and honey wines that are dry to semi-sweet. The winery began in 2002. The winery had plans to make honey wine. The winery became licensed in 2003 and the first batch was produced in 2004. Since 2004, the winery has added several additional flavors. Mead wine is one of the oldest alcohol containing drinks. There are several types of mead including Heroic which can reach 18% alcohol with the help of champagne yeast, pyment that blends honey grape juice and water and Hippocrass which is combination of pyment and spices.



 Flag Hill Winery and Distillery

 297 North River Road

Lee, NH


Flag Hill Winery and Distillery was established in 1990. The owner, Frank Reinhold, produces high quality alcohol such as General John Stark Vodka and Josiah Bartlett Barrel Apple Brandy. The doors were opened to the winery in 1996. You can get some of the products made from Flag Hill Winery at the NH State Liquor stores. Some of the flavors made at the winery are apple cranberry which combines apples and tart cranberries, Seyval Blanc that combines citrus, peach and honeysuckle and Niagara which is a white wine that combines honey and green apple.



 Walpole Mountain View Winery at Barnett Hill Vineyard

Walpole, NH


Walpole Mountain View Winery at Barnett Hill Vineyard has been making quality wine for over 3 years. They have a great selection of 28 grape varieties. Walpole uses the richest sore possible to get high quality grapes for the best wine possible.  The vineyard has the best wines such as La Crescent, St. Croix and Howell Mélange Blanc. In 2006, 100 gallons of wine were wine made at the winery and the numbers grow each year.



Poverty Lane Orchards and Farnum Hill Ciders

Lebanon, NH


The fields at Poverty Lane Orchards and Farnum Hill Ciders were dairy farmlands until 1960. The ciders they produce are dry and complex. The ciders are of English, French and American origin. The sugars in the cider yield 6.5-8.5% by volume.



 La Belle Winery

La Belle winery has won its share of awards.  In July of 2009, NH Magazine named La Belle Winery’s Heirloom Apple the best in a blind test of four NH fruit wines. The winery has also won over 20 medals in the Indy International Wine Completion including 12 Gold Awards. The winemaker, Amy Labelle, is a corporate attorney but it was her passion for wine making that prompted her to start the winery. She personally makes every bottle of quality wine. LaBelle winery produces crisp, fruity wines such as Dry apple which is an International Silver Medal Winner, Granite State Red and Red Raspberry wine that is a Double Gold Award Winner.



 Stone Gate Vineyard

 Gilford, NH


Stone Gate vineyard grows cold climate French hybrid grapes. Their wines include Marechal Foch, Leon Millot, Frontenac, Seyval, Cayuga, Steuben, Elvira and Aurore.  They produce high quality white wines such as Elvira which is sweet, Seyval that is dry as well as red wines as Frontenac that has berry flavors and Gilford Rose which is a rose wine. On the grounds of the vineyards is a winery, tasting room and gift shop.



 The Black Dog Vineyard

 289 New Road

Salisbury, NH


The Black Dog Vineyard was created by Ted and Kelly Jarvis in July of 2007. They produced several types of wines including Frontenac Gris which contains aromas of peach, apricot, citrus and tropical fruit, Marchale Foch which is cherry flavored and are a dark wine and Seyval that is a crisp white wine. They started making wine in 2008.
