Snowmobile Trip Gorham, NH
This snowmobile trip to Gorham New Hampshire was taken
with the Suncook Valley Sno Riders for their annual "Ride-in."
It is a yearly
event that the club offers for it's members. An entire building at the Town &
Country Inn on Rt. 2 in Shelburne, NH is rented by the members of the club. This
year's theme was a Vegas theme on the first floor... Looked like Mardi
Gras with all the decorations in the hallway.
Friday night was fun, we went to the bar where they had
live entertainment and plenty of room for dancing. After that we headed back to
our building. (The good news about the design of the Town & Country Inn is that
the noise from the entertainment, kitchen, office, dining area, etc is all
contained in a separate building, so once you leave the bar with the live band,
it is completely quiet). Everyone went to bed fairly early so they could get an
early start the next morning for their snowmobile trip (with the exception of a
few who decided to stay up late from what I heard).
Saturday morning we were up and getting ready to go early,
some decided to trailer their snowmobiles to Errol, NH for the snowmobiles
trails there. Our group decided to stay at the Town & Country Inn. We were on
the trails by 9:00am. A little bit rocky near the Inn as we headed out, and a
few wet spots, but it was clearly due to a lack of snow. A few more inches of
snow would have made a big difference.
We spent the day riding the snowmobile trails in Gorham,
Shelburne, Berlin, through the White Mountain Nations Forest, near Mt.
Washington, past The Balsams and stopped for lunch at
Fabyan's Station Restaurant and Lounge in Hanover, NH near Crawford
Notch. This is a restored railroad station that was converted to a restaurant,
Fabyan's is located across from the Bretton Woods Ski Area. The restaurant
serves lunch and dinner year-round. They also have a model trail that circles
the restaurant near the ceiling. The food was good, I would say the best part
was the clam chowder... A must have at Fabyan's Restaurant!
After lunch we jumped back onto the snowmobiles and headed
to Berlin, NH. The trail conditions were very good in this area until we got
near the paper mill in Berlin where we had some rocks from the railroad bed
coming through the snow, but it was only for a very short distance. The riding
was very good all in all.
The trip was a success! We had about 85 miles of
snowmobile riding, the trails were not too busy and everyone had fun!
On the way back home, we stopped at Fandangles Restaurant
in North Conway, NH. The food was ok there, the prices were a bit on the high
side, $30 for 2 people for breakfast.

|
The Bad: |
- It was a little difficult getting out of the Town & Country
Inn parking lot to go riding, but we didn't have much snow when
we went. It was still passable, just had to go slow for a few
miles. There were also quite a few exposed rocks near the inn,
but again, just due to a lack of snow. Use caution and you will
be fine.

|
The Ugly: |
- Our toilet leaked in our bathroom, notified staff, no big
deal.
|
|
Tips to Remember: |
-
Extra pillows are
under the TV set in the drawers at the Town & Country Inn (we
figured that out on our last day there)
-
Caution:
A snowmobile trail groomer travels at an average speed of only
5-8 MPH. Snowmobile riders need to use "extreme caution" on the
trails and always be on the lookout for groomers. Many of the
grooming machines are exceptionally wide and long, so you as the
snowmobile driver need to give the right-of-way, and always slow
down when approaching a groomer.
- Most cell phones do not work in Gorham NH.
