Also at Franconia Notch State Park is the viewing area for the
Old Man of The Mountain Memorial and Mt. Lafayette viewing
including Eagle Cliff (Golden Eagle and The Eaglet) which is
popular with rock climbers.

Eagle Cliff rises 1,500 feet above the valley floor of Franconia
Notch and Franconia Notch State Park entrance. Eagle Cliff is
part of Mt. Lafayette. Eagle Cliff gets its name from the Golden
Eagles that used to nest among these crags.
Guests from the nearby Profile House in Franconia Notch State
Park, which was built in 1853 told stories of "watching the
birds circling around its summits and looking down, as though
with lordly disdain, upon gazing crowds below, who have invaded
their solitude." One of the writers wrote "No prouder position
could be chosen for a habitation by this noble bird."
The last eagles that nested here were reported in the 1890's.
Around 1900, the Peregrine Falcon was reported nesting on the
cliff. This nesting continued into the 1950's at which point the
nesting of Peregrines deteriorated.
In 1981, the Peregrine was found nesting once again and fledged
2 young Falcons. Each year since 1981 Peregrines have been seen
on these cliffs, sometimes seen interacting with the Ravens that
also nest there.
Franconia Notch State Park is located in
Franconia Notch & Lincoln NH.
