Three new
programs at the Laconia Adult Education Center, 345
Union Avenue, Laconia, NH, can help with relaxation and
relief of stress, pain or illness. Sarah Cohen, a
licensed massage therapist, will offer three different
massage therapy clinics during the winter semester;
Massage for Couples, Pain Relief Through Trigger Points,
and Tui Na: Acupressure Massage for Friends and/or
Partners. These Tuesday evening classes will be a part
of the Winter Semester of Learning at Laconia Adult
Education in Laconia, NH.
Learning is a
lifelong process that doesn't stop when a person reaches
adulthood. From cooking to computers, certificates to
doctorate degrees, and truck driving to technology,
adult learners can find anything they need to continue
their education right here in their own backyard.
Massage
for Couples
Massage for
Couples will be held Tuesday, February 10 from 6 to 9
p.m. in the Health Occupations Room at Laconia High
School. During this one night class, students will learn
a few easy but effective massage techniques in a fun,
hands-on class, suitable for a variety of couples. Both
partners will give and receive massage. Class lecture is
kept to a minimum and emphasis on techniques and
communication will allow everyone to start using their
new skills immediately.
Pain
Relief Through Trigger Points
Pain Relief
Through Trigger Points will be held Tuesday, January 27
from 6 to 9 pm in the Health Occupations Room at Laconia
High School. Is there frequent pain in your
neck/shoulders? Lost range of movement in your
arms/shoulders? Recurring numbness/tingling in your
fingers? During this one night class, attendees will
learn to address many of their recurring pain issues and
learn to find and treat trigger points causing the
problems.
Tui Na
Massage for Friends or Partners
Tui Na Massage
for Friends or Partners is a two-session class. The
first night is Tuesday, March 3 and the second is
Tuesday, March 10. Both classes run from from 6 to 9 pm
in the Health Occupations Room at Laconia High School.
Tui Na is an
ancient form of Chinese physical therapy, some 2000
years old. "Tui Na" combines the names of two of the
hand techniques, "Tui" meaning "to push" and "Na"
meaning "to lift and squeeze." In these hands-on
classes, you will learn the history and potential
benefits of therapeutic bodywork in general, and Tui Na
in particular. After a demonstration of six first-aid
points (for nausea, stress, and more) to use on
themselves and others, attendees will learn to apply the
treatments correctly. Students will also learn how to
give a one-hour relaxation session to healthy friends
and family. Handouts will be provided, and there will be
ample time for questions.
Class size is
limited and students are advised to bring a pillow and
comforter to the class. Call (603) 524-5712 for more
information or to register.
